This handwritten letter, dated May 9, 1861, is written from Peleg Clarke Jr. to Peleg Clarke Sr. describing the perils of being in Fredericksburg and the difficulties of escaping. The letter goes on to describe what the surrounding areas are like and his unwillingness to join the fight.
