This letter, dated June 29, 1855, is from James Buchanan, an American lawyer, diplomat and politician who served as the 15th president of the United States from 1857 to 1861, to Riggs and Co., asking them to purchase a Bill of Exchange. This note was found tipped into volume three, between pages 152-153 of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
