Description

This is a black and white illustration of General Charles Pomeroy Stone, a career United States Army officer, civil engineer, and surveyor who, after resigning from the U. S. Army and surveying for the Mexican Government, he returned to the U.S. Army to fight in the American Civil War. Stone is depicted as wearing a double breasted uniform with a dark cape draped over his right shoulder. The artist's name, R. A. Mullers, is in the lower right corner of the illustration and his name is captioned as "General Charles P. Stone" beneath the illustration. This illustration is from volume four of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
