Description
This is a black and white illustration of John Adams Dix, an American politician and military officer who was Secretary of the Treasury, Governor of New York and Union major general during the Civil War. Dix is depicted as wearing a military uniform with a belt and tasseled sash, shoulder boards, and a sword. "Engraved by A. H. Ritchie" is directly beneath the illustration and Dix's name is captioned below that. This illustration is from volume four of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
