Description
This is a black and white illustration of Major General Joseph K. Mansfield, a career United States Army officer, civil engineer, and a Union general in the American Civil War, mortally wounded at the Battle of Antietam. Mansfield is depicted as wearing a double breasted military uniform with epaulettes on both shoulders. The photographer and engraver are identified along the bottom corner edges of the illustration. Mansfield's signature is depicted below the illustration with "Maj. Gen. J. K. F. Mansfield" captioned beneath. This illustration is from volume four of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
