Description
This is a black and white illustration of Major General John A. Dix, an American politician and military officer who was Secretary of the Treasury, Governor of New York and Union major general during the Civil War. Dix is depicted in profile, wearing a military uniform with shoulder boards on each shoulder. "Engraved for the Eclectic by Perine and Giles, N. York" is captioned along the bottom edge of the illustration and "Maj. Gen. John A. Dix, Minister to France" is captioned below. This illustration is from volume four of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
