Description
This black and white illustration is of Pierre Gustave Toutant-Beauregard, a Confederate general officer of Louisiana Creole descent who started the American Civil War by leading the attack on Fort Sumter on April 12, 1861. Beauregard is depicted wearing a double breasted military uniform with a white collar. The illustration is an oval with in dark shaded rectangle "frame." Beauregard's signature "G. T. Beauregard" is depicted beneath the illustration. This illustration is from volume five of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
