This black and white illustration is of Don Carlos Buell, a United States Army officer who fought in the Seminole War, the Mexican–American War, and the American Civil War. Buell is depicted as wearing a double breasted uniform with shoulder boards on either shoulder. Buell's signature is depicted beneath the illustration. This illustration is from volume five of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
