Description
This black and white illustration is of General William "Bull" Nelson, a United States naval officer who became a Union general during the American Civil War. Nelson is depicted as standing with his right hand resting on the back of a chair, wearing a dark double-breasted military uniform with a white shirt, dark tie, and epaulets on both shoulders. He is holding what appears to be gloves in his left hand. "General William Nelson" is captioned beneath the illustration. This illustration is from volume five of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
