Description

This black and white illustration is of Samuel P. Heintzelman, a United States Army general who was a prominent figure in the early months of the American Civil War who rose to the command of a corps. Heintzelman is depicted as wearing a double breasted military uniform with a black tie, shoulder boards and a high black collar. The photographer and engraver's names are along the bottom edge of the illustration. Heintzelman's signature is depicted below the illustration and "General Samuel P. Heintzelman" is captioned beneath the signature. This illustration is from volume five of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
