Description

This black and white illustration is of Ambrose Everett Burnside, an American army officer and politician who became a senior Union general in the Civil War. Burnside is depicted as standing next to a small table with his left hand resting on the table next to his hat. Burnside is wearing a dark, double-breasted military uniform with epaulettes, a belt and sash, and gloves. What appears to be a pile of fabric is depicted behind him. The photographer is listed along the bottom edge of the illustration and Burnside's signature is depicted beneath. "Likeness from a recent Photograph from life" is captioned beneath the signature. This illustration is in volume six of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
