Description
This black and white illustration is of Edwin M. Stanton, an American lawyer and politician who served as Secretary of War under the Lincoln Administration during most of the American Civil War. Stanton is depicted as wearing a dark suit, vest and tie with a white shirt. The engraver's name is listed along the bottom edge of the illustration and Stanton's signature is depicted below. This illustration is in volume six of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
