Description

These black and white illustrations are of William Sprague, who participated in the First Battle of Bull Run during the American Civil War while he was a sitting Governor, is on the left and William Dennison, who served as the 24th governor of Ohio and as U.S. Postmaster General in the Cabinet of President Abraham Lincoln during the American Civil War is on the right. Both men are depicted as wearing a dark suit, vest, and tie with a white shirt. Sprague has a mustache. The men's names are captioned beneath their respective images. This illustration is from volume six of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
