Description
This black and white illustration is of Andrew Hull Foote, an American naval officer who was noted for his service in the American Civil War and also for his contributions to several naval reforms in the years prior to the war. Foote is depicted as standing with one foot propped on a wooden step and one arm propped up while holding a hat and wearing a dark, double breasted military uniform with epaulettes, a metal buckle, and embroidered cuffs with boots, a dark tie, and a white shirt. His left hand is resting on his hip. Foote's signature is depicted beneath the illustration with "Likeness from a recent Photograph from life" captioned below. This illustration is from volume seven, of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
