Description
This black and white photograph is of Archbishop John Hughes, a prelate of the Roman Catholic Church in the United States who founded St. John's College, which would later become Fordham University. Hughes is standing with his right hand resting on a book, wearing a dark robe that is buttoned down the front. A sash is at his waist and he is wearing a cross necklace on a long chain that rests the cross at his waste. A drape is behind his left shoulder. The photograph is a CDV (carte de visite) that was found tipped into pages 24-25 of volume seven, of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
