Description

This black and white illustration is a map showing Union and Confederate placement at the battles of Champion's Hill, Black River Bridge, Raymond, and Jackson. The map spans two pages and the key identifying the two sets of troupes is in the upper middle of page 181. The map includes indications for Bridgeport, Montgomery Bridge, Big Black River, Edwards Depot, Vicksburg and Jackson Railroad, Mississippi Springs, Pear River, and the placement of the four battles fought in the area. The map spans pages 180-181 of volume seven, of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay and is captioned "Champion's Hill and Black River Bridge" and "Raymond and Jackson," respectively. The book title, "Abraham Lincoln" is at the top of page 180 and the section title, "Grant's May Battles in Mississippi" is at the top of page 181. Text from section, concerning the battles captioned in the map is in the bottom half of the pages.
