This black and white illustration is of General Early Van Dorn, a great-nephew of Andrew Jackson and a United States Army officer who joined Confederate forces in 1861 after the Civil War broke out. Van Dorn is depicted as wearing a dark suit, vest and tie with a white shirt. His name is captioned beneath the illustration. This illustration is from volume seven, of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
