Frank and Virginia Williams
This black and white illustration is of General Early Van Dorn, a great-nephew of Andrew Jackson and a United States Army officer who joined Confederate forces in 1861 after the Civil War broke out. Van Dorn is depicted as wearing a dark double-breasted suit, a dark tie, and white shirt. The artist, Charles B. Hall, is named along the bottom curve of the illustration and Van Dorn's signature is depicted beneath the illustration. This illustration is from volume seven, of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
