Description

This black and white illustration is of General Samuel Peter Heintzelman, a United States Army general, a prominent figure in the early months of the American Civil War, rising to the command of a corps. Heintzelman is depicted as wearing a dark, double-breasted military uniform wit shoulder boards and a high collar. The artist, O'Neill, N.Y. is along the edge of the illustration and Heintzelman's signature is beneath. This illustration is from volume seven, of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
