This black and white illustration is of Rear-Admiral John A. Dahlgren, a United States Navy officer who during the Civil War was made commander of the Washington Navy Yard where he established the Bureau of Ordnance. Dahlgren is depicted in a dark cloak with a high black collar. His name is depicted beneath the illustration. This illustration is from volume seven, of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
