This black and white illustration is of Winfield Scott Hancock, a Union general in the American Civil War and the Democratic nominee for President of the United States in 1880. Hancock is depicted as seated and waring a dark, double-breasted military uniform with shoulder boards and a high collar. The artist and photographer are named directly below the illustration and Hancock's signature is depicted near the bottom of the page. This illustration is from volume seven, of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
