Description
This black and white illustration is of George Bancroft, an American historian, statesman and Democratic politician who was prominent in promoting secondary education both in his home state of Massachusetts and at the national and international levels. Bancroft is depicted in a profile, extreme headshot with no real clothing detail. Some dark shading is sketched behind his face and his name is captioned beneath the illustration. The illustration is from volume eight of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
