This black and white illustration is of General John G. Parke, a United States Army engineer and a Union general in the American Civil War. Parke is depicted in a dark, double-breasted military uniform with star-studded shoulder boards. The illustration is set within a thin line box and Parke's name is captioned beneath. The illustration is from volume nine of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
