Description
This black and white illustration is of Hugh Judson Kilpatrick, an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War, achieving the rank of brevet major general. Kilpatrick is depicted holding a black hat and wearing a dark, double breasted military uniform with star studded shoulder boards. The original photographer, Brady, is listed directly beneath the illustration and Kilpatrick's signature is depicted below. The illustration is from volume nine of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
