Description
This black and white illustration depicts Abraham Lincoln walking on a street among a crowd of people, both African Americans and white. Some of the people on the right side of the illustration are depicted as throwing their hats into the air and some of the people on the left are carrying rifles. Lincoln is being lead by a man in a military uniform and is holding the hand of a small boy. Buildings and trees are depicted behind the crowd. The illustration is titled "Abraham Lincoln Entering Richmond, April 3d, 1865" and was published by B. B. Russell and Co. in Boston. The artist, L. Hollis, is named along the bottom left edge of the illustration and the engraver, J. C. Buttre, is named along the bottom right of the illustration. The illustration is from volume nine of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
