This black and white illustration depicts Caleb Cushing, an American Democratic politician and diplomat who served as a Congressman from Massachusetts and Attorney General under President Franklin Pierce. Cushing is depicted in a dark suit jacket and tie with lighter pants and vest and a white shirt. He is seated in an ornate chair with his arms crossed. His name is captioned beneath the illustration. The illustration is within volume two of Abraham Lincoln : A History by John G. Nicolay and John Hay.
