Speaking with Representative Molinari of Staten Island, New York; 1- The House has now acted on this issue by accepting the recommendations of the Base Closure Commission. Looking back on it now, what do you think of the process? Do you think it was fair?; 2- Staten Island was put on the list by the commission, not the Defense Department. That meant we had a much shorter time period to mount a defense. How much disadvantage was that for you?; 3- The folks in and around East Mississippi quickly rallied around our efforts to save our base, but in New York City, some of your colleagues favored closing the home port. Did that make your job more difficult? ;
