Description
Thirteen pages of original court documents from the State v. Fields case dating 1843. The case was heard in the State of Mississippi Lowndes County Circuit Court.
Transcription
The State of Mississippi, Lowndes County, charged Joseph W. Fields with quartering his enslaved persons upon a plantation one mile from his residence and for failing to procure an overseer capable of performing patrol in 1842. Fields was convicted and fined $500 in 1844. A decree from Albert G. Brown, Governor of Mississsippi, declared Fields' fine remitted as of April 17, 1844.
