Transcription
Charles A. Neilson and L. H. Williford were sureties for Peter Melson, principal, in a case the State of Mississippi, Lowndes County, brought against Melson for treating slaves with inhumanity in 1861. Melson was called to the Court in 1863, but made default or did not appear. Since Melson defaulted, Neilson and Williford were ordered to pay five hundred dollars on his behalf. Neilson and Williford were then ordered to the Court again in 1864 to show cause why said judgement should not be made absolute against them.
