Description

Four pages of original court documents from the State v. Lipscomb case dating 1864. The case was heard in the State of Mississippi Lowndes County Circuit Court.

Transcription

The State of Mississippi, Lowndes County, charged Thomas C. Lipscomb with unlawfully trading with slaves in 1864. Specifically, he bought one quart of whiskey from an enslaved man named Josh without permission given in person or in writing specifying what articles were permitted to be bought by the master, owner, or employer, of said slave.
