Description
Twelve pages of original court documents from the State v. Price case dating 1837. The case was heard in the State of Mississippi Lowndes County Circuit Court.
Transcription
The State of Mississippi, Lowndes County, charged James Price, a laborer, with two crimes. First, with larceny for stealing an enslaved person, Edmund, owned by Joel Neil on February 20, 1837. Price lived in Lowndes County, Mississippi and Neil lived in Rapides Parish, Louisiana. Edmund was valued at $1,000. Second, with stealing two male bay mules from Charles Eggleston on September 8, 1837. The mules were valued at $200.
