A letter detailing the death of an enslaved person, Lewis, from Phrenitis.
Transcription
Mobile Feb 22nd 1846 Mr. H. Nutt [[?]] some short time after my arrival in this place your boy Lewis was taken sick and died. I sent him to the City Hospital where he was well attended to. I will give you a copy of Dr. Crawford's certificate. [[?]] Mobile Feb 14th 1846 This is to certify that the negro boy Lewis of Mr. J. Robinson was brought to the City Hospital on Feby 3d and died Feby 5th of Phrenitis signed W. B. Crawford MD I have nothing of interest to offer you. This market is rather dull for the sale of cotton seed or anything else. Please let me hear from you on the reception of this and oblige your most obedient servant J. Robinson
