David Nolen discusses the origins of the Ulysses S. Grant Memoirs with host, Fred Smith. Nolan describes how Grant lost all of his money which led him to write and publish his memoir so that his family would not be left destitute after his death. He goes on to describe the success of the memoir over the years. The discussion continues in July 2019 when Nolan discusses the 2017 annotated edition of the memoir.
