Description

David Nolen discusses the new annotated edition of the Memoirs of Ulysses S. Grant with host, Fred Smith. Nolan describes the popularity of the first edition at the time it was published, the number and types of editions published over the years, and why the Grant Presidential Library felt the need to edit and release a new edition. Nolan reads a passage from the new annotated edition that he feels best illustrates why an annotated edition was needed to make the text more accessible to a modern reader. This interview is a continuation of the June 2019 episode wherein Nolan discusses the Grant memoir's origin story.
