Description
Chief Communications Officer and Director of OPA, Sid Salter, interviews radio newsman, Randy Bell. Bell discusses the recent donation of his works to the Mississippi State University Libraries Mississippi Journalism Collection as well as how he, having lived in Alabama, ended up attending and graduating from Mississippi State University. Other topics of the interview include how he got his start in radio news, how radio and news information and delivery has changed, the role for radio in modern technology, the types of stories he's covered over the years and how to engage listeners. He goes on to discuss his experience reporting the events of 9/11, his coverage of politics, government, race relations, and the current mistrust of the media and how staffing limitations in the news industry contributes to a lack of quality news. The interview concludes with the discussion of how he intends to continue his career, the types of stories that keep his passion for the news alive, and how MSU has contributed to his career.
