Description

This handwritten letter, dated July 13, 1943, is written by Rollin S. Armstrong at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma where he is stationed, to his wife, Rebecca Armstrong, in Tupelo, Mississippi. The letter discusses the confidential fact that he has been "alerted for overseas duty" and instructs her not to tell anyone. The letter goes on to encourage her to "keep her chin up" and reminds her that he is fighting for her and their child's freedom. He ends the letter describing how wonderful it will be to be reunited with her when the war is over and how much he loves her. The letter is written on Camp Gruber, Oklahoma stationary with the Army eagle logo in the top center. The envelope is postmarked Camp Gruber, Oklahoma, July 14, 1943.
