Description

This postcard is a black and white image of Ava Johnson Nichols and her husband James William “Will” Nichols (1867-1932), a farmer from Tunica County, being pulled in a carriage by a cow with an unidentified female child on the cow’s back, visiting Hot Springs, Arkansas resort in May 1911. Ava, on the right, is wearing a light colored dress and is smiling. Will, on the left, is wearing a dark suit and hat with a white shirt and bow tie. The girl riding the cow is wearing light colored dress and a large white bow on either side of her head. the cow is black with a white spot on it's forehead. Buildings are seen behind them. The back of the card is addressed to Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Johnson in Lamberto, Mississippi. The card is postmarked Hot Springs, Arkansas, May 31, 1911 and a green, one cent Benjamin Franklin postage stamp is placed in the upper right corner. An inscription is written on the left half of the card. [see transcription field]

May-30-1911 Dear Bro. and Sister, We are going home tomorrow. Will not doing well. Hal is there now. Lovingly, Sister, Ava Nichols [sic]
