Description

This postcard features a color illustration of the Confederate monument located at the Old Capital grounds in Jackson, Mississippi. The monument, built in 1891, features a soldier standing on top of an obelisk and a statue of Jefferson Davis at the base of the obelisk. The Davis Statue was eventually removed from the monument and moved to the Old Capital museum. Trees are seen to the left of the monument. The title of the card is printed upper edge of the image. "In 'Confederate Park' formerly part of the old state house grounds" is written along the bottom edge of the image. An inscription is written sideways on the left half of the back of the card. Also a part of the view from my office--In fact, from the desk where I usually sit this is in full view also a delicious bit of distant woods across the river. [sic]
