Description
This postcard features a black and white image of the State Insane Asylum in Jackson, Mississippi. The two story, multi-section building, has a cupola and white columns on the section in the foreground. The rest of the building is mostly obscured by a line of trees. The title of the card is printed along the bottom edge of the card. In 1900 the Mississippi State Lunatic Asylum changed its name to the Mississippi State Insane Hospital. In 1926 the word “Insane” was removed from the hospital’s name and by 1935 the hospital moved to Whitfield.
