Description

This postcard features a black and white image of a campus view of the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in Oxford, Mississippi. Trees are seen on the grounds to the left in the image and buildings, a confederate monument and trees are seen on the right side of the image. A sidewalk is seen on the grounds in front of the confederate monument, an obelisk with the statue of a saluting Confederate solder on top. The title of the card is printed along the bottom edge of the card. The back of the card is addressed to Miss Frances King in Dallas, Texas. The card is postmarked Oxford, Miss., August 3, 1939 and a green, one cent George Washington postage stamp is placed in the upper right corner. The following is printed in the upper left of the card: "The University of Mississippi A co-educational institution offers courses in Liberal Arts, Law, Engineering, Pharmacy, Education, Medicine, Business Administration and Graduate study. It is located at University, Mississippi, one mile west of Oxford." An inscription is written sideways on the left half of the card and over the printed paragraph. [see transcription field]

Thurs Dearest sister:- I have sure rested since I've been here. I moved only to Miss Lizzies' last night. Had dinner here. Gayle will be here any time. Miss Lizzie isn't so well. Had thought of leaving Monday but Miss Lizzie's chauffeur is driving her to the fast doctor in Memphis Sat. so just think I'd go. Said she'd take me to Laurie's house. Hope you are well and all the family . This is a beautiful town. Much love to you. M. K.
