Description
This color postcard features a brown church with a short steeple base at the front peak. Arched windows with white moldings are on the front and sides of the church. A building with four columns at the entrance stands next to the church. The title in the upper right corner reads "Presbyterian Church, Vicksburg, Miss., where Cannon Ball struck During the Siege." The back of the postcard identifies the item as a postcard and provides publisher information as well as indication for postage stamp placement. A handwritten inscription covers the entire back.

I dreamed a few nights since that we were stopping with some unusual friend--probably Mrs. C--You introduced Mr to first cousin Rev. Somebody--also starting that you were to marry him [?] so I send greetings and best wishes only wish it was not a cousin I so often think of you and the coincidence of the little northern affliction so like my father over whom she had such a soothing influence, and how discouraging and depressing it is to you which you had so much good cheer-- I think I wrote you briefly form St Paul, which go I left before the holidays, making my way to St. Louis and from there to this point stopping over at Memphis am now waiting for the boat to N. Orleans--Had a very thrilling scene last night when these two buildings were burned and completely destroyed. they are diagonally across from this hotel from my window watched the destruction from one o'clock until four this morning. Aside from the National cemetery it was the war this one affected [?] L. H. L. landery
