Abstract

The association between housing insecurity and the increased health problems in both adults and children is well established. Most research on child and adolescent populations has focused on negative health outcomes such as diagnosed health problems. However, the extent to which housing insecurity is associated with positive early life health outcomes, such as flourishing, is less clear. Cross-sectional data from the 2022 National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH) with children ages 6 to 17 was used to address this gap. This thesis estimated logistic regression models examining associations between the caregiver housing security worry and early life flourishing net of sociodemographic and socioeconomic controls. It was observed that children who had caregivers that ever worried about housing security in the past 12 months flourished significantly less than children whose caregivers never worried about housing security. These results add to evidence linking housing insecurity to early life health outcomes.
