Abstract
This study investigates the root-cause-analysis of repeated failures of an AC-DC converter in a variable frequency drive system on a 325-Ton crane through electrical testing based on NETA and IEEE standards. The testing is accompanied with a power quality study based on the IEEE 519-2019, simulation using SKM power modeling software, and fault study from two captured faults. The converter failures presented no immediate solution despite experienced technicians, engineers, and other specialists. This study attempts to eliminate root-cause by examining the line-side equipment and in-feed power quality as contributions to the converter faults.
