Description
Oral history; interview with Dr. H. Dean Bunch, Mitchell Memorial Library, March 19, 2012, Mississippi State University. Dr. Bunch died on Feb. 11, 2013. Bunch was a U.S. Army Veteran, Professor Emeritus of Agronomy, and Director Emeritus of International Programs for Mississippi State. Dr. Bunch was a pioneer at Mississippi State, working with the internationally recognized Seed Technology Program in its beginning stages. He first came to MSU in 1946 to help develop an adapted hybrid corn. He served in various positions at MSU for 39 years. He worked not only in development, but also in training others in seed technology as the seed lab's Director. Bunch travelled extensively for the program to countries worldwide. He also spent 3 years in Brazil as Program Head of a MSU-USAID project to bring strong seed production to that country. In this interview, Dr. Bunch discusses the history of the Experiment Station, the Extension Service, and Starkville. He also discusses some of the history of agricultural traditions and trends in Mississippi, the beginnings of the Office of International Programs, and the history of some of the faculty in the Lloyd-Ricks Building.
