Oral history; interview with Mr. Gerald Taylor, retired Extension Dairy Specialist, May 23, 2012, Mitchell Memorial Library, Mississippi State University. Mr. Taylor was born in 1932 in Mantachie, Mississippi. He first came to Mississippi State in 1952, and earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the University. He served in the military early in his career. As a Dairy Specialist at MSU, Taylor was involved with the Dairy Herd Improvements Association and was responsible for writing three newsletter articles every month. He travelled extensively over the state for the Extension Service during his career. Mr. Taylor was also heavily involved with dairy-related projects and events of MSU's 4-H Program. He was presented the Outstanding Mississippi Cooperative Extension Service Worker Award in 1983. He also served as President of the Mississippi Association of County Agricultural Agents. Taylor had an office in Lloyd-Ricks for 18 years before moving into the Bost Extension Building. He retired in 1986 after 32 years with the Extension Service. In this interview he discusses his experiences in Lloyd-Ricks and with the people who worked there, the history of dairying in Mississippi, and the Extension Service's involvement with it.
