Oral history; interview with Dr. John A. Tomlinson, May 18, 2012, Mitchell Memorial Library, Mississippi State University. Tomlinson is a Tupelo, Mississippi, native. He received his Bachelor's degree from Mississippi State in 1973. Tomlinson came back to MSU for graduate school in 1976 in Animal Science. At that time he was hired by Dr. Charles Lindley to help advise pre-veterinary students. He was the Assistant to the Dean and Academic Adviser for the College of Agriculture and Home Economics from 1978 until 1987. In 1993 he joined the Office of Development at MSU, serving as a Development Officer for the Division of Agriculture, Forestry, and Veterinary Medicine. As of 2012, Tomlinson was a member of the MSU Division Council, and was working as a Government Relations Officer with Mississippi State University Governmental Support, developing and maintaining relationships with state legislators and their staffs. In this interview, he discusses his time in Lloyd-Ricks as a graduate student, the strong community of faculty who worked there, and some of the special people from Lloyd Ricks' past and their dedication to MSU.
