Abstract

This article explains the historical background of painted enamelware during the Kangxi reign (1662-1722). Using a microscopic examination, the innovative rose-pink enamel technique is revealed, which is different from the European "The Purple of Cassius" recipe. Through XRF analysis, iron-red glaze made in Jingdezhen workshops is chemically different from gold-red enamel made in Peking imperial ateliers.
