Abstract
The preceding words were written by a 15-year-old student for The Washington Post on the subject of why other students felt the need to bring weapons into the school environment. The youth wrote that response in December of 1988, almost ten years prior to the shootings at Columbine High School which triggered the present concern for school safety. Nevertheless, though over fourteen years have passed since that response, some suggest the words still ring true today.
