Description
The medal's obverse design features a seated portrait of Harriet Beecher Stowe, the author of Uncle Tom's Cabin. Her hands are in her lap, and she holds a writing utensil and paper. Beneath her image, two dogs and man with a gun are shown chasing a woman and child up a hill. On the reverse, Confederate and United States flags are pictured intersecting at the top of the medal. Several rifles appear behind the flags, and the image of an eagle is placed at the center of the intersection. At the medal's bottom, a decorative border lines the edge.
