Artifacts

The Frank and Virginia Williams Collection of Lincolniana consists of approximately 12,000 artifacts, statuary, prints, paintings, broadsides, ephemera, photographs, philately, collectibles/miniatures, and numismatics. Materials are housed in 20 map case drawers, 30 cartons, and a variety of loose statuary, prints, and paintings. The collection also includes nearly 100 original manuscripts and the Claude Simmons collection which consists of approximately 12 bankers boxes of Lincoln related materials and scrapbooks. There are also approximately 15,000 books, journals, and pamphlets separated into two collections: the Lincoln Book Collection and the Civil War/Collateral Book Collection.

    The Christmas ornament honors Herbert Hoover, the thirty-first president of the United States. The ornament is a three-dimensional replica of a period fire truck, much like those that were dispatched to put out a fire at the White House in 1929. The replica also features a Christmas tree at the fire truck's back. The ornament has a gold string attached to its top for hanging and is enclosed in its original packaging.

    The Christmas ornament depicts William Henry Harrison mounted on a white horse, a nod to his inauguration day (4 March 1841) when Harrison mounted the horse to ride to the Capitol to take the presidential oath of office. A red silk ribbon is attached at the ornament's top for hanging.

    The Christmas Ornament commemorates the 200th anniversary of the setting of the first stone of the White House. On the front of the ornament, the text that appears on the original cornerstone is featured. On the reverse, an 1848 lithograph of the north-facing side of the White House appears. At its top, a silk hanging ribbon is attached.

The sleeves contain dated coin slots as well as slots for coins minted at the Denver and San Francisco Mints. Documentary information is included on the inside front and back covers. In addition, a letter from Masaharu Mochizuki and a page from the May 1973 edition of the Wall Street Coin Investor were found inside the folder.
